If you have an old, worn, or damaged rug that isn't worth the effort or funds to be repaired, don't toss it out just yet! We are big DIYers, here at Main Street Oriental Rugs, and like to get creative; repurposing a rug is always a great idea and a way to extend the life of your rug in a fun, new way.
We had a sad, old, ripped rug hanging around and a very nice vintage chair found at a yard sale for a steal. The vintage chair was in great need of a new seat cover, so we knew exactly what had to happen next!
Main Street Oriental Rugs - Area Rug Repurposing: Seat Covers!
We went with a quick seat recovering method and it's really simply to do and you just need a few things:
-
A rug of your choice
-
A chair
-
Heavy-duty fabric scissors/Utility knife
-
Nail gun
Step one:
Decide which part of the rug's pattern you'd like to feature and then cut the rug down to a manageable size.
Step two:
Align the center point of the rug with the center of the seat. Trim away any excess, while leaving a few inches to tuck and secure the rug to the seat with your nail gun.
Step three:
Secure the rug to the seat all the way around with several nails and now you have a brand new piece of furniture to display in your home!
Quick, easy, and no waste!
