At Main Street Oriental Rugs, we've had the recent pleasure of completing a full antique rug restoration and repair of the large and stately Persian Bidjar that resides in the Governor's office located at the Maryland State House in Annapolis, Maryland.
Over many years, the rug had sustained wear and tear from foot traffic and moth damage was present. The rug needed to be refreshed with a cleaning first, followed by careful repairs.
Our master repairman, who has experience restoring rugs you can see in museums, focused on an overall restoration of the governor's rug, including meticulous work on the rug's binding and kilim and reweaving frayed corners, all done by hand.
The rug was also delicately blocked (stretched) to restore its rectangular shape and allow it to once again lie perfectly flat. The project took several months to complete and turned out beautifully.
